Disseminating scientific research: a double-edged sword?
2017
Practitioners rarely have the time or propensity to read scientific research, and scholarly researchers seldom write for non-academic audiences. Nevertheless, both groups would probably agree that researchers could solve many problems faced by practitioners and that research is important to guide practice. This article acknowledges scientists’ failure to communicate successfully with practitioners, and discusses the main differences between academic and practitioner-oriented journals in management and business related disciplines. Author guidelines of the most prominent journals that appeal to both academics and practitioners are reviewed and discussed. A thorough literature review is also …

Academic Journal Publishing and Open Access
2015
Human Technology: An Interdisciplinary Journal on Humans in ICT Environments started in 2005 as an open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal, published only online. Now open-access journal publishing is growing rapidly (Bjork & Solomon, 2014) and providing important alternative routes to researchers’ access to the literature in many disciplines. This editorial only discusses the gold model of open-access publishing, not the green model (traditional journal publishing and a parallel repository). 1

El European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH) como criterio de calidad de las revistas académicas: análisis de la lista revisada de educación
2013
The European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH) has been proposed (and officially recognized in our country) as a European alternative to the dominant indices that have a known Anglo-Saxon bias. The aim is to raise the visibility of European research in the Humanities and in various areas of the Social Sciences, in order to improve coverage of the cultural and linguistic diversity of our continent. We analyze some of the circumstances affecting the results of the recently updated list of ERIH (´revised´), with special emphasis on the field of education. The results demonstrate the need to improve the criteria for entry into the index (completeness and quality) if ERIH is to achieve i…
